Breast of whirling cyclonic sand
Seethed in the hearts of the oppressed masses on the brink of apocalypse
When a new vehement and vociferous tongue of scorpions sharpened to stick with
Venomous paeans condemning imperialism surging in the veins of the dark jungle
In clandestine conclave seeking power from the colonial master
To imprison his people in the dungeon of gloom and perjury and dire degeneration and death
When a new flag was hoisted - flying in the air for eternal servitude upturned - liberation
When a new song was sung tatters flying in the air
When the white governor abandoned the castle for the black governor to take over the ruins
They chanted a propitiation chant to the earth goddess
And on the desert of apostasy celebrated independence
Celebration of independence
The day they were enslaved and their hearts and minds bound in everlasting chains
That was the day they celebrated independence
Dragged to eternal servitude they roared on the land with pomp and pageantry
Independence day they walked in ecstasy to the flames of slavery
Their dependence on their masters they celebrated on Independence Day
